The team of experts and agricultural researchers at IRC are native to the region and have extensive practical experience in developing agricultural resources. Moreover, several have worked as senior experts, Chief technical advisor and Team leaders for Food & Agriculture Organization of United Nation (FAO) and therefore have the technical know how to develop integrated concepts which is needed. Our experts also enjoy a rich understanding of the region's culture and have established deep contact with the community and its individuals.

The experience of the team of experts within the agriculture and food industry department at IRC can be summarized as follows:

Strategy and Planning

  • Formulating strategies and conducting master plans in the field of agriculture.
  • Analyzing and selecting the best economic value of date palm variety that is suitable and adapted to the region culture.
  • Economic analysis and plan for selecting the right plantations within the existing farm and availability of resources.
  • Conducting medium and small scale date palm plantations that can be granted to a large number of farms.
  • Evaluation and implementation of work-plans to assist farmers or Date packaging plants to improve production, quality and processing practices according to ISO, HACCP, DIN standards and others.
  • Commanding industry specific research and product development (R&D).

Agriculture Development

IRC conducts the following activities:
  • Feasibility studies, techno-economical, marketing and financial analysis for Agricultural and food industries , specifically date palm production, date palm by-products, date industries and date value added products.
  • Providing plant audits, consultancy services and technical and scientific solutions to overcome production problems for existing plants.
  • Design, implementation, and supervision of food industry projects especially date processing plants.
  • Introducing, developing and transferring new and innovative technologies for date handling, processing, fumigation, packaging and value added date industrialization.
  • Setting Standards, specifications and methods of measurements for date palm offshoots, dates and date products.
  • Conducting training programs to develop human resources through seminars, technical bulletins, extension means, etc. Also conducting or participating in local and international conferences and workshops.
  • Assessing Food Safety Practices.
  • Design and execution of date palm orchards according to the modern techniques.
  • Implementation of management programs for date palm farms (Irrigation, Fertilizing, Pest Control and Date Palm Operations such as: thinning, bagging, pending, harvesting, post harvest operations, packaging and storage)
  • Identification and selecting date palm cultivars which gives higher yield and grows under different environmental conditions in the region.
  • Supervising the cultivation of tissue culture offshoots in nurseries or date palm orchards.
  • Mechanical pollination of date palms
